Review and Buying Guide of NETGEAR GS108T-200UKS ProSAFE 8 Port Gigabit Smart Ethernet Switch

Sound switch for all those of us doing it on the affordable. Excellent little bit of kit – the encryption on the world-wide-web interface is a bit suspect and i would not allow it any place in close proximity to a manufacturing community but for a little vmware homelab this ticks the boxes with lacp and vlanning help quick to setup. Operates a tad warm, definitely wouldn’t want to hide it in a cabinet but sitting down atop a bunch o’microservers and the like it is really rather first rate.

Are not able to be established up employing a mac, will come with personal computer only software. This is a excellent switch, and crucially for my wants supports url aggregation. On the other hand, in spite of getting equally mac and computer system appropriate, the switch is transported with set up and setup cds that are only computer system appropriate. Regardless of netgear buyer guidance being welcoming and willing to test and assist, following days of making an attempt to down load software program from the net, heading through their web browser configuration software package and contacting them a number of occasions frequently getting conflicting info, there is however no way close to this problem other than to borrow a personal computer and in my scenario a person that is aware of how to use the pc, in buy to put in the software package and configure the switch. Netgear say that none of their merchandise come with mac software package. Absolutely a enormous oversight on their part, and certainly a substantial waste of time and inconvenience for their mac prospects.

If you happen to be major about your network, obtain. . I have the 8 port and the 24 port variation and they are each excellent ‘smart switches’, they operate brilliantly with my edgerouter lite and nas drives. The means to use url aggregation on my qnap ts251 nas is practical but the greatest issue is that they appear to be considerably ‘snappier’ than my outdated unmanaged hp procurve switches that i was utilizing. There does not appear to be to be a way to effortlessly wall mount the 24 port one particular but thats the only downside.

“Confirmation that this model is the V2 GS108T-200UKS, Good SOHO managed switches for smaller networks, but documentation is not the best, Professional Solution, Excellent managed switch., Great value managed switch with extensive management tools, Easy to set up and nice features”

I gained this switch absolutely free as part of the netgear good friends and household plan. This switch was built-in on to our compact enterprise office environment community enviroment changing some of our more mature switches. Our recent community has many laptop workstations, apple mac workstations, laptop servers, large format printers, community printers and readynas storage gadgets. As normally with netgear items i identified it uncomplicated to set up and configure and was up and running in small sum of time and those spots necessitating further configuration have been conveniently set up with freindly basic user interfaces. On a each day basis we deal with lots of huge sized information equally by way of printing and file design and administration. With the new switch we discovered knowledge speeds have been increased as opposed to our old switches which greatly improved our productiveness. Very delighted with this merchandise and does the occupation extremely well.

What a wonderful piece of kit. Basically swapped out the outdated rapidly ethernet switch and changed it with this a single. I was expecting a very long and sophisticated configuration but it just worked immediately and procedure has been rock strong so considerably. Just what you’d expect from netgear.

Great price managed switch with intensive administration tools. I am working my residence community around this switch – and it can be been silent and faultless given that its original power-up. It is really not the sexiest-on the lookout switch all-around, some of netgear’s other offerings are a great deal prettier, but for a box that sits in a dark place quietly executing its organization, who cares?as a absolutely managed switch, it does acquire fairly some time to boot up from chilly, which can be a shock coming from unmanaged hardware, but hook up this to a ups and you’ll never ever have to worry about that. The range of tools in the world-wide-web management console is in depth, my only criticism would be that the system see page in the web manager requires a java applet, ruling out heaps of fashionable browsers (really, a java applet in 2016??).

Excellent hardware let down by a java web app interface. . I chose this particular switch for the ability to have 24 ethernet ports at gigabit speeds which can be managed. Upon opening the packaging, i found the switch and there was no doubt that this was a quality product when it comes down to the construction of the hardware itself. A huge step up from my previous switch: a plastic tp-link 5 port switch which was very creaky and lightweight. The mounting brackets went on like a doddle and allow for the switch to be placed on a wall at different angles (plus the ability to rackmount). When powered on, the switch took a minute to load (a normal thing with managed switches) but settled quite well. I then used the installer disc to install the software which allowed me to manage the switch. This is a web interface, in contrast to that of other managed switches which can be connected to by telnet. The management software is reasonably good but does have its drawbacks in that it uses an outdated java web app for some of the features which will be phased out of browsers such as firefox in the next couple of months. Proceed with caution with this for the long term if your setup needs to be secure, and also make sure that you keep a vm with a browser and os handy so you can still configure it without trouble in the future.

The average home user could probably use it straight out of the box; but for the adventurous, it offers lots of customisable features – in fact it had quite a few features that i had to go off and research – as i had never heard of them :-).

This product provides you with a compact router with a web based console. It is easy to setup and install, with the ability to wall mount if desired. With a metal casing it is robust and suitable for an office environment, although with only 8 ports it will probably only work for a soho environment. At a good price point, i would recommend this router for those who require a small, reliable device from a trusted manufacturer.

This is the best switch i have ever owned. Review is for the gs108t-200uks. This is the best switch i have ever owned, before you read another review that says “i plugged it into my virgin media and it worked out of the box” most switches should, it is basic operation, this web managed switch gives you access to just enough extra features to make setting up an advanced home network, all in a reasonably easy to understand web interface, setting up vlan’s and link aggregation to my nas was a breeze, i was so taken with the switch i decided to buy it’s big brother the gs724tv4 which was awful, it was so slow and unbelievably hard to try and configure, any attempt to try and set up any features that where even slightly advanced led to the unit becoming totally un-responsible, the web if disconnecting and the network totally slowing down, needless to say i sent this back. The gs108t-200uks is an amazing product, why they couldn’t have just made a 16 or 24 port version that was as good only network knows. I bought this product with my own money and decided to leave an honest review based on my experiences, netgear have never offered me free or discounted products in exchange for favorable reviews, but they can if they want.

I bought this to replace an ageing dell managed switch and it has worked well for over a year. I does what i need to support vlans and also port mirroring for test purposes.

Great product and excellent value for money. The switch works very well and it is totally silent (finless). It is well built, solid and cleanly presented. Excellent factory packaging which protects the switch for transportation. The weakest link is the software platform. It has several things, that knowing netgear’s traditional attention to details, i would expect them to address soon: 1-it only works with internet explorer as it requires to have installed java add-on which are not longer supported neither by edge nor google which are todays browsers most used under windows 10. 2- the smart control center manager software adds little value as it only provides support for discovery, maintenance and task managing but for managing the switch it invokes the ie to access the web manager tools in the switch (so point 1 still applies for this as well). So in essence the only managing tool which is usable is the web based tool imbedded in the switch. 3- on top the smart control center manager requires to have adobe to run the product.
