Not really what i anticipated its not rackmountable or steel. Obtaining ordered this switch to mount in a rack to swap a faulty unit i anticipated the description of ( a rackmountable 19′ steel 16 port switch ) to be rackmountable and steel the device that was sent is a desktop none rackmountable plastic 16 port switch. Whilst this functions o/k i have experienced to acquire a proper rackmountable to switch the primary defective unit. So if you need a 16 port desktop switch this will be o/k but it is not rackmountable or metal.

    Does what it says on the tin. If you need more ports on your home network than your router provides, and you’re network isn’t too demanding, then this is a good product. The display is very clear making it easy enough to see which ports are currently active. If you have a more demanding network, go for the gigabit 10/100/1000 equivalent.

    Being a switch in theory there shouldn’t be any messing around, however as always i hold my breath when it comes to anything connected to a computer. Fortunately, this does do what it says on the tin. You simply fit it into a 19″ rack if you have used the provided mounting brackets and plug into your router. The build quality is very good – like all of the other tp-link stuff i’ve had over the years. Only slight downside is that it’s a kind of 1970’s leyland car brown. Not a problem for me as my server rack is in a cupboard, however if you have your system on display and want a cohesive look, then that might jar. Overall though, in terms of bang for your buck, this is a winner.

    Much cheaper than netgear and seems just as solidly built. I like the fact it comes with mounting brackets that can be used for rack mounting or for wall mounting. Also it just takes a basic kettle lead – the transformer is built into the body rather than being in one of those bulky plugs which is good for me. Be aware that it is considerbly bigger than some other switches as it has the transformer in the main unit. Check the dimensions before you buy.

      I needed to create a mini network for a technical demo. This worked first time with no configuration at all, 8 desktops networked to one server. Nice and small so it hid under the table well. Also this is a reassuringly sturdy piece of kit, it feels like it will last.
