Review and Buying Guide of TP-LINK TL-SG1016 16-Port Gigabit Rackmount Switch

I have had this switch for pretty much two years, it has been on and functioning non-prevent (connected to router, nas, pcs, tv, sonos and many others) practically the whole time devoid of any difficulties. Entirely silent, never will get even heat, under no circumstances desired to be rebooted, fully trusted.

Low-priced but solidly constructed and reputable. Will not permit the selling price fool you, this is a decent switchin my job (as an it network engineer) i have appear across some atrocious community switches that have been the standard bring about of community failures at remote internet sites (intellinet getting a notorious case in point, on a regular basis needing a energy-cycle to get them heading once more). The odd tp-link switch was out and about there as well, but as much as i am knowledgeable we under no circumstances had a moment’s difficulty with them. They are low-cost, but they are definitely not nasty, otherwise i would not have bought just one for residence (this switch feeds out to pretty a great deal every single room in the residence). If you are right after gigabit networking on a spending budget, glance no even further.

Excellent item at a good price tag. This is an outstanding high quality product at an unbelievably low-cost price tag – it is well manufactured, operates silently as you will find no admirer in the scenario, and has given me a noticable raise in pace from the more mature switch which i was utilizing beforehand. The bundled brackets can be made use of to mount it in a rack, but i have been capable to use them to neatly connect the switch to the wall. A further as well as place is that there is no ‘brick’ ability supply, just a neat mains kettle guide to plug into the back. A straightforward, plug in and forget about bit of kit, which is just what you want from a switch, quietly and reliably getting on with the endeavor it can be manufactured for.

Comments from buyers

“what could possibly be better than this? Brilliant, Rackmounters beware!, Received old version, unsatisfactory product details., Overkill for most people, looks the business, and works the business too, Good quality network switch”

I’m not positive what you can say about a solution like this other than it will work exactly as predicted. As a non managed switch it needed zero setup. Linked just one port to my house router and the other folks to different units and i was away to go. Very best of all it has no admirer so no sound.

Uncomplicated set-up and does the position for gigabit networks. Formerly i had procured a managed model of this switch but just could not get it configured accurately in my environment. I acquired this rather to regulate my household gigabit community (replacing a basic gigabit switch) at my most important patch panel. I have to say established up was a breeze, definitely plug and play and operational out of the box. The rationale i wanted one thing a lot more juicy and clever was to take care of weighty sd media back ups by way of giigabit lan from my laptops to my nas (mac and home windows). This has actually decreased my back again up periods and performs just as i wished. It has also improved my ability to stream comprehensive hd media all-around my residence and from the net without having issue. I have at the very least twelve lively ports (broadband router, supplemental wifi ap, nas, media centre, sky box, tablets, mobiles and so forth etc) all have labored properly.

What could possibly be far better than this?. I bought this sixteen port switch to connect up my growing connected residence, which was beforehand lashed collectively with two essential 4 port ten/one hundred mbps switches. I have connected up a bt household hub v3 (also functions as a wifi obtain issue), microsoft home windows media centre, xbox360, freesat box with bbc iplayer, five supplemental ethernet ports in other rooms, and a second wifi access issue (tp-link tl-wa701nd 150mbps wi-fi lite n obtain place ) = ten ports used in whole. As i have two wireless access details i just had to make the tp-link accessibility place get its ip deal with from the bt property hub’s dhcp server so that ip addresses had been not duplicated. The tp-link 16 port switch has a strong steel casing that presents it a sense of substantial good quality as opposed with the plastic casing on the tp-link wifi accessibility level but both equally solutions get the job done incredibly very well indeed and are priced incredibly well.

Excellent switch for a small office/ home office type network setup, particularly in a network closet with a rackmount cabinet. That does not mean you cannot use it anywhere else you need this many ports. Most people looking at this item will know this, but for those unaware, this does not replace your router. The switch has 24 ports and will effectively increase the number of ports in the back of your router. A normal setup will consist of a single cable from the router to one of the ports on this switch, and then further devices hooked up to the other ports. Lights correspond to the port being used along with the speed (100/1000 mbps). A point to note is that the included power cable could not fit in my cabinet as it was a slimline version (280mm total depth) and the cable termination plug itself is too rigid. To rectify this i purchased a right angled power cable and it has been running just fine. Those with normal depth cabinets or installing outside of an enclosure will have no issues.

Good quality network switch. Let me start by saying i am a massive fan of tp-link products, the quality and cost of the products is excellent. I purchased this to replace an old 8 port gigabit tp link switch which i had grown out of. Product arrived swiftly and well packaged and comes supplied with a rack mount kit also which is great, it also comes with a power lead. There is also no built in fan which is a bonus to help keep the noise down in my garage.

Solid professional-grade unmanaged switch, 24 gigabit ports for plenty of network capacity. I needed more network ports, and already had a tp-link 8 port gigabit switch which i was very happy with – so i was in two minds whether to bodge it and buy another of those and daisy-chain them, or do it properly and buy this 24 port switch and leave myself plenty of room for expansion, and save having yet another wall-wart psu hanging off my extension lead. I’m glad i made the right choice – this unit seems solid as a rock, is fanless so it’s silent, has a sturdy metal case which is good for heat dissipation as well as being tough, can be rack-mounted (brackets are supplied) and uses a standard kettle lead rather than an ugly wall-wart psu. As with most unmanaged switches, it’s dead simple – you just plug stuff in to it, and, er, that’s it, it just works. It has been working great as the core switch in my network – performance is rock solid, no complaints at all, even with an amazon fire box downstairs streaming hd video, my laptop using plenty of bandwidth to my home server, etc – it keeps up with everything with no issues. If you need to expand your home or small office network but don’t require a managed switch, i’d more than happily recommend this.

True plug and play – totally reliable – great . I bought this nearly a year ago, and since i installed it has performed without any issues at all. I wanted to upgrade my home network from 100mb/s to gigabit and this was the best priced product from a brand name and it has been been a great buy. Some of my ethernet cabling is not the best but this switch seems to be able to send gigabit speed data down all my cables without a problem. I have noticed a huge difference in the speed coping large files or folders from one pc to another since this upgrade, so i would be happy to recommend this device. A bonus is that the unit is totally silent, as my old switch had a fan that could get noisy.
